Pondok Tanjung
At Pondok Tanjung new tracks were constructed over soft alluvium. KTMB had specified settlements of less than 50mm within one year of tracks operation. Ground was improved using vertical drains and surcharge. Steep embankment side was constructed using geotextile wrap around walls. Settlements plates and piezometers was used to monitor soil behaviours
Kuala Selangor
Kuala Selangor is protected from flooding by the Sungai Selangor river bunds. As a result of erosion the bunds had to be rebuilt. The site is underlain by very soft marine clay. Construction of the new bunds required ground improvement by vertical drains, use of a rock mattress and geogrids.
PSC Naval Docyard
Land reclamation to permit construction of additional facilities at the PSC Naval Dockyard was necessary for construction of the Off Shore Patrol Vessel Project. Hydraulic fill up to a depth of 12m was placed at the shoreline overlying very soft marine deposits. Long term stability is assured by ground improvement using vertical drains. Surcharge was used to promote accelerated consolidation. Settlements exceeding 1m were recorded.
