Jetty structures supported on prestressed spun piles are common to Malaysia. The extension of the outer mole structure at PSC Naval Dockyards is a typical example. Spun pile of 800mm diameter were used for the foundations driven in a single manufactured length of 36m. Single length piles permits continuous driving of piles without stoppages for welding piles at joints to form extension lengths.
Economical designs are made when correct assessment of berthing forces are calculated and applied to a 3-D model. Software such as PIGLET was used to analyse forces and displacements.
